STARSAILOR singer James Walsh has reminisced about the good old days of bands hitting the road to meet record companies.

In a blog for The Huffington Post, the former Wigan and Leigh College student spoke about when Starsailor was just starting to attract attention and how record labels no longer need to travel across the country to listen to bands because they post their talent through online websites such as YouTube.

He also revealed that before he began to write album Lullaby, he was reluctant to be given help in the shape of Sacha Skarbek as he didn’t believe he needed about assistance.

But it was a sheer twist of fate that their collaboration led to contact with Phillipa Smith who was working on a movie with Swedish director Ulf Johansson based on Chuck Palahniuck’s novel Lullaby and needed someone to write the songs.

He admitted Lullaby was “a challenge,” but also “a great experience,” saying: “One of the hardest things as a writer is seeking out new inspirations for songs and with ‘Lullaby’ it was all there in this brilliant dark satirical novel.”
