TALENTED (or not) Wigan singers will get the chance to wow X-Factor judges as the popular TV contest heads to town.

As the country’s biggest auditions hit the road in search of the nation’s best vocal artists - the next stop is right here in the borough.

Residents will have the opportunity to perform as the UK singing show favourite sets up camp at The Grand Arcade Shopping Centre on Tuesday, May 19. If they make a big enough impression they could then be singing for music mogul Simon Cowell.

An audition pod will be open between 10am and 5pm, no registration is needed, people are advised to just turn up on the day to take part in the open audition.

Acts are also urged to turn up early as auditions are on a first come first served basis. If the X-Factor team is impressed with the contestants vocals they will be in with a chance of auditioning in front of the X-Factor judges this summer.

The tour, which will visit an unprecedented 50 towns and cities across the UK and Ireland, is branching out in a bid to reach as of the country’s much talent as it possibly can.

As a result, the next winner to be crowed could come from the borough and follow in the footsteps of now world-wide famous artists such as Leona Lewis.

X-Factor creator Simon Cowell said: “The X-Factor is coming back and, if you think you have the potential to be a world-class star, this is your chance to prove it. You really could be the next pop superstar.”

The hit show, which this year won a National Television Award for Best Talent Show, has uncovered some outstanding talent across the years, including last year’s winner Ben Haenow, who has achieved a number one selling single in the UK and is now in the studio working on his debut album.

To date One Direction have sold more than 50 million records worldwide, Olly Murs has achieved double platinum success, Little Mix have sold 1.3 million albums and Ella Henderson had the fastest selling UK female single debut of the year with Ghost.

Applicants must be 16 years or over to audition, a parent or guardian must accompany any applicants under the age of 18 and applicants must bring photo ID with them.

The X Factor, sponsored by TalkTalk, returns to ITV and the Xtra Factor to ITV2 and later in the year. Fans of the show can follow all the action via @TheXFactor on Twitter and
