EXTRA tickets will go on sale to meet huge demand for Wigan’s most anticipated concert in a generation.
Organisers have announced another 1,500 tickets for The Courteeners at Haigh Hall Live will be released on Friday, May 14.
And today a limited number of tickets are up for grabs through the Manchester band’s Facebook page.
The opening concert at Haigh Country Park on Thursday, June 30, will be the venue’s biggest music event since The Verve played Wigan’s landmark venue in 1998.
More than 5,000 tickets for the gig were snapped up within a matter of hours of going on sale last month,
The outdoor concert, with a capacity of more than 7,000, will be the opening night in a planned four day event, with popstar Peter Andre taking the stage on Friday, July 1 and local bands performing at Haigh Festival on Sunday, July 3.
A spokesman for Haigh Hall Live organisers Cuffe and Taylor Event Management said: “We knew that The Courteeners would be a popular choice, but our estimates were blown away within the first hour of ticket sales.
“We sold more than 5,000 tickets in the first hour, with many ticket agencies struggling to cope with the demand.
“We have therefore decided to increase the park’s capacity, as we had many disappointed fans who were unable to secure the first batch of tickets.”
Festival favourites The Courteneers will be supported by Merseyside band The Coral, and promising Salford-based starlet Ren Harvieu, with further acts to be announced in the coming weeks.
The Courteeners recently announced their appearance at the sell-out V Festival and Isle of Wight Festival this summer.
With two Top 10 albums under their belt, the band played a sell-out concert in December at the 16,000 capacity Manchester Evening News Arena.
Tickets for a concert this July in Delamere Forest sold out in a record 38 minutes.
In the last two years the band have also appeared on the main stage at Reading/Leeds Festival, V Festival, Isle of Wight Festival, and Coachella Festival in California.
Extra tickets will go on sale at 9am on Friday, May 14 from www.haighlive.com, by calling 0844 880 6614, or visit www.seetickets.com, or call 0844 873 7334.
