A WIGAN student is celebrating after seeing her clothes designs showcased at a prestigious fashion event.
After being inspired by pop sensation Lady Gaga, 17-year-old Wigan and Leigh College student Sarah Bimpson designed outfits she based on the styles the singer wears.
She entered a competition that will see her come up against some of the top young designers in the country at a top modelling event, which is running at the NEC in Birmingham up until tomorrow.
Sarah, who is currently studying fashion and clothing at Wigan and Leigh College and lives in Skelmersdale, entered the Clothes Show Live – Young Designer of the Year competition and is now one of 10 finalists that will compete for the title of Young Designer of the Year.
The brief was to design a red carpet dress for a style icon and Sarah chose to design for pop superstar, Lady Gaga.
She said: “I love fashion, I love being creative and turning designs into reality. I chose Lady Gaga as my style icon because her style and sense of fashion is really inspiring.”
The winner will receive £1,000 prize money and a week of work experience within the fashion industry.
They will also see £1,000 donated to their university or college.
Dawn Cunningham, clothing and fashion course leader at Wigan and Leigh College expressed her joy for the budding designer,
She said: “We are delighted and extremely proud of Sarah’s achievements.
“She consistently produces excellent work and thoroughly deserves to be Young Designer of the Year.”
