WIGAN Library played host to some of the area’s finest young orators with the county final of the Poetry By Heart competition.
The prestigious contest is open to school and college students with each tasked with reciting three poems.
One must have been published before 1914, one published in or after 1914 and one taken from a 2014 showcase collection.
The final was judged by Winstanley representative Coun Paul Kenny, poet Shirley May and Sharon Lowe, co-ordinator of the 2013 Words Festival.
Contestants from all over the North West were assessed on their voice and articulation, evidence of understanding of the subject material and the level of difficulty of each poem.
