AN historic Wigan company is set to hold special birthday tea party.

Ellsey’s Vinegar will be toasting 80 years in business, during a special anniversary event this Saturday, held at the Wigan and Leigh Hospice Garden Party.

The tea party is being held to commemorate the company’s 80th birthday and to mark the special occasion Ellsey’s boss Shaun Roberts invited people called ‘Ellsey’ to attend.

The Wigan-based firm launched a search in July to find 80 ‘Ellseys’ to help celebrate the milestone and after a great response from local people a number of ‘Ellseys’ and their family members are set to attend an afternoon of tea, cakes and good company.

Organised as part of Wigan and Leigh Hospice’s annual Garden Party, which Ellsey’s has sponsored, the tea party will take place in a special Ellsey’s marquee positioned at the end of the garden in the hospice grounds.

Ellsey’s managing director Shaun Roberts said: “It has been great fun trying to find people who share our name to attend our birthday celebration. We’re all looking forward to welcoming all of the Ellseys to the event. This will be a truly unique day, which we hope is never forgotten.”

Each Ellsey will be treated to complimentary tea and cakes and receive a special goodie bag at the event, which will begin at 1pm.

The special occasion will also be detailed in Ellsey’s 80th anniversary book, which is set to be published later this year and kept in the Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust archives.

Maxine Armstrong, Wigan and Leigh Hospice corporate and community fundraiser, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside Ellsey’s. We work tirelessly all year to raise funds for the Hospice, so getting the support from a local business is very important to us. The Garden Party is open to the general public, free of charge, and is one of the key fund-raising events in the Hospice Calendar. The Ellsey’s tea party is such a fun way to celebrate their 80th Anniversary and it will be great seeing all the Ellseys from around the area – it will be a brilliant day so simply come on down to the Hospice in Hindley on Saturday and join in the fun.”

Wigan and Leigh Hospice host the Garden Party every year to celebrate summer and raise money. The Garden Party is free and will begin at noon and will include refreshments, music and variety of stalls including jewellery, crafts, and homemade cakes. Ellsey’s will also have a stall at the event, where visitors will be able to sample some new products including Ellsey’s Chip Shop vinegar ranges.
