WIGAN’S town centre is on the verge of a huge makeover as part of a £60m five-year masterplan.
Ambitious developers have this week unveiled their vision to create a cultural and entertainment hub around the current site of The Galleries shopping centre.
And one of many spin-offs would be the generation of more than 400 jobs. As part of the privately-funded initiative, a multiplex cinema with dining and leisure facilities will be built along with the creation of a piazza-style square and revamped street pattern.
The town’s market traders will be re-housed in a purpose-built development near to Market Place.
The developers, Vale Retail, and Wigan Council are inviting residents to view the full plans and give feedback later this month.
