A Wigan man has been charged with a serious assault after it was alleged that he hit his friend with a pint glass.

Michael Lang, of Medlock Way, Platt Bridge, did not enter a plea when he appeared in the dock at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court charged with one count of assaulting Andrew Bromley occasioning grievous bodily harm.

The 49-year-old is accused of picking up a pint glass and striking Mr Bromley around the head with it after the two friends had got into an altercation.

The justices decided that the allegations were too serious for them to deal with at magistrates’ court, and so they committed Lang to Liverpool Crown Court.

The defendant will make his first appearance before a judge on Friday, June 3.

In the meantime he was remanded on conditional bail.
