A WIGAN man has died following a road accident in Parbold.

Police officers were called to the junction of Sparrow Hill and Parbold Hill on Saturday (December 13) to reports two cars had collided.

Standish resident Gordon Crumpton, 77, sustained serious injuries to his head and pelvis and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he died on Sunday evening. Mr Crumpton was driving a Ford Fiesta.

A 35-year-old man from Shevington, who was driving a Ford Focus, sustained an injury to his knee in the collision.

The road was closed for two-and-a-half hours for an investigation to take place and officers are now appealing for witnesses.

The incident occurred at 9.20am.

PS Finn Quainton of the South Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic incident where a man has lost his life and my thoughts are very much with Gordon’s family and friends.

“An investigation to establish the circumstances of the collision is already underway and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information about what happened to contact us.”
