MORE THAN 1,290 Wigan people were caught watching TV without a valid licence last year, TV Licensing revealed today.
This compares to more than 2,040 in Bolton, more than 1,230 in St Helens and more than 1,030 in Warrington.
There were more than 9,580 people caught watching TV illegally across Lancashire and almost 390,000 across the UK. However, the estimated evasion rate remains steady at around five per cent, as it has done for the last five years. This means the vast majority of people, or 19 out of 20 households and businesses, are correctly licensed in accordance with the legal requirements.
A colour TV Licence costs £145.50 and includes IT.
