Arsonist starts blaze on driveway

An arsonist set fire to wooden pallets on the driveway of a house while the occupants slept inside.

Police are investigating the incident after the pallets were set alight in front of a house on Bedford Street, Whelley.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire and no-one was injured.

Police Constable Bradley Dunne of GMP’s Wigan Borough said: “Fortunately, no-one was injured but this was a reckless act and people were inside the property at the time. They are incredibly lucky to have escaped unharmed.

“I would ask anyone who may have seen anyone acting in a suspicious manner in the area to contact police as soon as possible.”
