Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing in Aspull.
The victim was knifed in the chest on Friday evening on Crawford Street in an incident which has shocked residents living nearby.
He was taken to hospital where he is being treated for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police were called to the scene at around 9.30pm on Friday following reports that a group of men had been seen with knives.
The group had made off before officers arrived on the scene.
However, a short time later police arrested two men aged 29 and 32. They remain in custody for questioning.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said they are still trying to work out exactly what happened and urged anyone with information to come forward.
Officers taped off the area around the stabbing and police vehicles remained at the scene throughout Saturday morning.
Detective Inspector (DI) Ben Hart from GMP said: “Our enquiries into this incident remain very much ongoing as we work to establish exactly what has taken place here.
“I am asking for any witnesses that may have seen this stabbing, or the events leading up to or after it, to please get in touch with us.”
