Wiganers can claim Bez as one of their own and cheer on the manic star in the Big Brother House.
The grandparents of the Happy Mondays dancer, currently "chillin" in the Big Brother house, lived in Wigan.
Bolton born and raised, the young Bez – real name Mark Berry – was what we Wiganers would call a "rum 'un".
His autobiography Freaky Dancin' reveals he was kicked out of the family home in Little Hulton at 16 and had to go to live with his grandma and granddad in Wigan.
However the book does not reveal where they lived, although it is thought to have been in the Hindley area.
Following a spell in Strangeways for breaking into Worsley Golf Club, time spent in Hindley Young Offenders' Institute after a bodged burglary and an escapade in Morocco which saw the young Bez begging his nan to stump up the cash to bring him home, he settled in Wigan for a couple of years.
And he was returning to Wigan from a night out in Manchester when he first bumped into Shaun Ryder, his partner in mayhem in Happy Mondays. But, with his life increasingly going off the rails, trouble with the police involving gang skirmishes, drugs and petty thefts, Bez realised he could not drag his grandparents down with him.
He moved to a flat in Salford and from there Happy Mondays took off. The rest of Bez's autobiography is a riot of pills, thrills, bellyaches and music.
The 40-year-old dancer is one of the five remaining candidates in the Big Brother house. He is up against actor Jeremy Edwards, Blazin' Squad's Kenzie, model Caprice and Brigitte Nielsen.
