THIS is the latest glimpse of the Billy Boston statue as it nears completion.

The statue is being sculpted by Steve Winterburn who is spending hours making sure it represents the Wigan rugby legend to perfection.

The statue will be erected early next year in Believe Square in Wigan town centre on a three foot plinth.

The plinth will feature four plaques - and four Wiganers have the chance to have their names included on this historic monument in our exclusive competition.

We are looking for four quotes which best sum up the popular rugby ace.

The words can be about the player, or the man. Whatever you think best describes - in a nutshell - Billy B.

The winning quotes will be featured on four of the plaques and will include the names of the lucky winners. The best four will be selected by members of the Billy Boston Statue Trust.

To be in with a chance of making your mark on this historic monument, send your quote in NO MORE than 20 words, to Billy B statue quotes, Wigan Observer, Martland Mill Lane, Wigan WN5 0LX.

The closing date is December 16 and by entering the competition you agree to your name being reproduced along with your entry onto the plinth.

So get you thinking caps on and let’s find the most memorable words to honour this incredible man.

The other two plaques will contain the title of the statue, to be decided by Steve and the Trust members and also Billy’s career history.

Trust Secretary, Terry Wynn said: “It is all coming together very nicely. I went with Trust member Barbara Thompson to see the sculpture in progress in Steve’s workshop and is fantastic.

It will look magnificent once it is finished and erected in the town centre.”
