WIGAN Warriors’ Central Park academy was hit by a suspected arson attack last night.
Two fire engines from Wigan station were called to the education centre, on the former site of Pembec High School, shortly after 7pm and found rolls of Astro-turf well alight.
They battled the blaze and eventually brought it under control but it is reported that considerable damage was caused as a result.
The academy on Montrose Avenue, which is also home to Wigan Warriors office staff, was opened last year.
Police have confirmed inquiries are ongoing and that they are investigating a report of criminal damage.
