A PAIR of Wigan residents suffered burns to their hands and feet after a flat blaze they suspect was an arson attack.
Fire crews from Atherton were called to the ground floor flat on Devonshire Road, part of the Hag Fold Estate, at just after 1am on Thursday morning.
Watch manager Andy Leyland said: “The two occupiers believe curtains in the bedroom of the property were set alight through an open window.
“They were in the living room at the time, they suffered their injuries when they tried to tackle the fire themselves but that made it worse.
“The flames spread to the bedclothes before we got it under control. The incident is now being treated as a deliberate ignition.”
Officers from the fire investigations team are now working alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police to probe the cause of the blaze.
