RUSH hour services have been diverted after a body was found on the railway line.

The grim discovery was made on the track between Atherton station and Walkden at 7.15 this morning (Tuesday).

A spokesman for Northern Rail said it was not yet clear how long the body, whose gender has not been revealed, had been there.

Services that normally pass through Atherton were being diverted via Bolton, and Northern Rail has a road replacement service which is calling in at stations between Hindley and Salford Crescent.
