Police are calling for plumbers and heating engineers to be on alert after 19 LPG boilers were stolen from a Wigan caravan manufacturer.

Between 8pm on Friday February 6 and 6am on Saturday February 7, intruders broke into a secure compound at Pemberton Leisure Homes on Woodhouse Lane, Springfield.

They broke their way through two metal fences to gain access to the secure compound, before forcing the doors of 19 caravans in order to reach the boilers.

They stole around £18,500 worth of Morco brand liquid petroleum gas boilers before fleeding.

PC Bradley Dunne said: “This was a planned theft, in which the offenders clearly knew what they were targeting from the outset.

“They stole a large number of boilers, so I would ask anyone who may have seen a large vehicle - capable of carrying so many at a time - around the area in the early hours of the morning to contact police.

“These offenders will also be looking to offload these items as quickly as possible, I would also request that any plumbers, heating engineers or scrap metal dealers who are offered items or are asked to convert LPG boilers into normal gas ones, to contact us as a matter of urgency.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
