A TEENAGE boy was rescued after he fell down a tunnel in Wigan.
Fire crews from Hindley and Wigan, plus a specialist unit from Ashton-under-Lyne, assisted a 14-year-old boy who had slipped down an embankment and fallen down the tunnel near Borsdane Woods, off Danes Avenue, Hindley.
Firefighters spent around half an hour using ropes to pull the boy out at 6.20pm on Friday.
Mountain rescue also assisted, reaching the teenager using a nine metre ladder.
Paramedics from North West Ambulance Service checked out the boy’s injuries, and it was determined they were not serious enough to go to hospital.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “The boy had fallen down the side of an embankment into a tunnel. We helped him off the bank and as the tunnel was inaccessible, mountain rescue assisted. Paramedics checked him over, but he did not need to go to hospital in the end.”
