A WIGAN newlywed is in mourning today after her husband of less than three months plunged to his death from a high rise tower in Dubai.

Susie McIlwraith nee Melling, from Standish, married husband Elwood, in February, who worked as a fitness instructor in the gulf state.

The 29-year-old is reported to have fallen from the 42-storey Laguna Tower in a high-rise district of the city in circumstances surrounded in mystery.

Dubai police are investigating the incident but the circumstances leading up to his fatal plunge are not yet

Devastated Mrs McIlwraith is thought to have been joined by members of her family and is being comforted by her

husband’s work colleagues from Smart Fitness, a company located in the Laguna Tower.

A statement from the company read: “On Saturday, we lost a very special member of the Smart Fitness family.

Elwood was a founder trainer who played a big part in helping make Smart Fitness what it is today.

“He brought tremendous energy and warmth to the gym and his genuine kindness made everyone feel comfortable irrespective of their

fitness level.

“He was such a talented personal trainer that he had the ability to encourage people to go beyond their limits and achieve result they wouldn’t have thought were possible.”

Hull born Mr McIlwraith’s tragic death is the third of its kind in as many months involving British nationals.

Last month Evelyn Clarke, 30, an air-stewardess died after falling from a tall building and Abbie Emmett, 27, fell from the fourth floor of her honeymoon suite in February also in Dubai.
