Bus driver fell ill at wheel

A BUS driver was hospitalised after being taken ill behind the wheel.

The incident occurred at Leigh bus station as a Stagecoach service was travelling towards Hindley at around 12.15pm on Tuesday.

The bus operator confirmed the driver had been taken to hospital but could not comment further on his condition, and said a replacement driver was found to continue the service with a delay of just three minutes.

However, one onlooker contacted us to express disgust at the selfish reactions of some passengers to the employee’s illness. The resident, who asked not to be named, said: “Some fellow travellers were complaining about being late for wherever they were going rather than showing concern for the poor driver.”
