Civil servants’ strike action at Jobcentre

THE GIANT Jobcentre Plus centre, in Gerard Street, Ashton-in-Makerfield, is to be hit by a 48-hour walkout in a row over working conditions and claims of excessive monitoring.

Members of the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) will take industrial action on Thursday, January 20, and Friday, January 21 after voting in favour of a walkout.

The union said staff have complained about “intolerable” conditions, including excessive monitoring and inflexible working conditions.

The Department for Work and Pensions’ (DWP) Makerfield benefits centre, which has around 550 staff, processes claims by jobless and needy families in London so strike action by Wigan workers will have a national effect.
