Jobs and skills fair

JOBSEEKERS will have the chance to find out about job, apprenticeship and volunteering opportunities with big name organisations tomorrow.

The job and skills fair will be taking place in Wigan Life Centre North on Friday 6 September and has been organised by Wigan Council in partnership with Wigan Job Centre Plus. It will give jobseekers the opportunity to speak to employers and gain support for their job search.

Around 70 organisations have confirmed their attendance at the fair. They include: the careers team from the Army, the borough’s football team Wigan Athletic FC, and Topman, one of the biggest retailers in the UK.

A number of activities and demonstrations will be taking place on the day. For example, Rock FM will be running sessions which will give jobseekers the opportunity to be learn how to DJ; record and edit on their media bus; create, write and produce their own commercials and have tips on how to present by their Wigan-born presenter, Luke Marsden.

The fair will also have the Challenge Cup trophy on display after Wigan Warriors RLFC’s recent victory in the Challenge Cup Final.

Councillor David Molyneux, Wigan Council cabinet member for skills, said: “Wigan Council understands how important it is that young people and adults in the borough have job opportunities. We are pleased at the number of businesses and training providers who have confirmed their attendance and I am very confident it will be a successful day for everyone involved.”

The jobs and skills fair is a free drop-in event and takes place from 9am to 1pm.
