WIGAN has been selected as the location for an online clothing brand’s premier store.
Fashion and lifestyle retailer Chums has opened its first UK shop - based in Golden Days, in Back Lane, Appley Bridge.
The new store, which will see three new jobs created, stocks a wide selection of Chums’ fashion ranges and also some mobility products.
Locality was key in North-West-based Chum’s opting for Wigan as the destination for its first store in its 30-year history. The move to open a first stand-alone store is down to the success of Chums’ 50 concessions across the UK, as well as the continued growth in its catalogue home shopping and online sales. There are plans to open more stores in the next 12 months, with these creating more jobs. The Golden Days store was opened by Chums Retail Director, Adam Rubin.
Antony Eden, head of marketing at Chums, said: “We are delighted to be opening our first ever store in Wigan.
“Wigan has always been top of our list for our first store opening. We wanted to initially focus on our doorstep in the North West, and we know through research that a large number of our catalogue and online shoppers live within a close proximity to the store.”
Chums’ mail order business was developed by managing director Graham Rubin in 1984 after many years’ experience in the manufacture of trousers, which were supplied to the large catalogue firms at the time.
