Car lands on roof after collision

A Ford Fiesta and a Mercedes ML300 collided on Atherleigh Way, near the East Lancashire Road, shortly before 3pm.

The Fiesta overturned and the Mercedes went down an embankment as a result of the crash.

Firefighters from Leigh attended and freed a woman trapped inside the Fiesta.

The other people in the two cars, which included children, were able to get out unaided.

They had minor injuries and were all taken to Wigan Infirmary for treatment.

Atherleigh Way was closed in both directions until 4.20pm, when one lane was reopened to traffic.
