A Wigan pub is appealing for information after a car ploughed into its front before driving off and leaving over £1,000 of damage in its wake.
Punters at the Star Inn in Roby Mill were horrified on Friday night when, at around 9pm, a white BMW appeared to lose control as it was taking the bend on Bank Top and crashed into the outdoor furniture and floral displays at the front of the building.
Shocked staff rushed outside but the car had sped off leaving a total mess behind.
The Star’s manager Nigel Maloney took to Facebook to appeal for information, posting a photo of the wreckage left behind.
Speaking to the Evening Post, he said: “We just heard a big noise and some people sitting near the window said they saw a white BMW coming towards them.
“I went outside and there was lots of damage there but the car had gone so I phoned the police.
“There was also some debris from the car and when the police came they said they could tell it was from a new BMW model from December 2015.
“They went to look for the car but couldn’t find it.
“We’ve received a name now of someone who it could be so that has been passed on to the police.”
The pub received plenty of help from the public in helping to track down those responsible and clean up the mess left behind.
However, whoever was behind the wheel has still not been caught.
Nigel added: “It wiped out three planters. We’ve had new ones built and put in place but they still need painting
“In total this will cost us over £1,000. We just want the person responsible found so we can claim off their insurance but also so this won’t happen again.
“We’ve had a lot of support and help from the public though. The post on Facebook has had over 30,000 hits and our neighbours helped with the clean up on Saturday so it looks ok again now.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers 0800 555111.
