A charity will be holding a series of events in June to raise awareness of breastfeeding.

As part of a month-long campaign, Wigan charity Breastfeeding Together, which helps to support new mothers in Wigan learning to breastfeed their babies, will be organising a number of events to raise money and the profile of breastfeeding.

A car boot sale is being held on June 19 from 8am until noon at Wigan Investment Centre with pitches currently available at a reduced rate of £10 per car and gates will open at 7.30am to set up.

Activities for the whole family will be on offer during the day including a face painting stall, a smoothie bike and cakes and drinks.

Breastfeeding Together supports families in Wigan, providing information and support in both the antenatal and postnatal period at a variety of settings across Wigan borough including antenatal clinics, in hospital, at families home and in groups.

As well as the car boot, there will also be a coffee morning on June 24 at the Grand Arcade in Wigan.

Surveys show that mums in the North West are less likely to breastfeed their babies than most other areas in England and Wales and the series of events are aiming to raise awareness of the services the charity offers to help mum’s breastfeed.

Elinor Halliwell, Project Manager for Breastfeeding Together, said: “We provide non-judgemental support for all mums in the area, whatever their breastfeeding goals are – one feed, one week, one month, one year or more – we’re here to help and support you.”
