Chey Dunkley's emotional message to Wigan Athletic after Sheffield Wednesday switch

Chey Dunkley says Wigan Athletic will always have a place in his heart after completing a move to Sheffield Wednesday.

Unlike Joe Gelhardt and Kieffer Moore, Dunkley's contract with Wigan Athletic had expired in the summer and he was a free agent.

Writing on social media, Dunkley thanked Latics staff, players and fans for memories he will "cherish".

And addressing the club going into administration, he said: "With the recent devastating news, this has not been easy for anyone associated with the club.

"Despite all this, with all the positive spirits surrounding Wigan as a town, the club will be back on track as 'defying the odds' is in the club's DNA.

"Of course the club will be held dear at heart and I wish everyone connected with the club success for the coming season and beyond."

The 28-year-old follows teenage midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in moving to Hillsborough.

The centre-back scored 13 goals in his three years with Latics including six last season before he suffered a broken leg in February.
