A NIGHTCLUBBER is facing plastic surgery after part of his ear was bitten off during a savage attack in Wigan town centre.

Police say the teenager lost a considerable part of the ear and is now waiting to see whether some kind of reconstructive operation can be carried out. They today appealed for witnesses to the horrific incident which happened outside Madison’s Club in King Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.

They particularly want to speak to a woman who identified a suspect to them but then disappeared.

It was around 12.30am when the 19-year-old victim became involved in an argument in the bar.

A fight started and a number of people were asked to leave the premises, but the dispute is believed to have then continued outside.

During the fight, part of the victim’s ear was bitten off.

A 24-year-old man was arrested and released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Det Con Sheena Maerevoet from Wigan CID said: “Details of what happened are sketchy at the moment and I would urge anyone who may have been in or outside the bar who may have seen something to contact police.

“The victim has been left with a horrible injury which may require surgery and he is in a lot of pain.

“We would particularly like to speak to a woman who identified a male believed to be part of the assault. Officers went off to make an arrest but when they returned the woman had gone. We would ask her to come forward because she could be key to the inquiry.”

The victim was taken to Wigan Infirmary for treatment and assessment and has been told he may now be referred to Whiston Hospital for plastic surgery.

It was a middle section of the young men’s left ear that was bitten off and the piece was not retrieved for possible surgical re-attachment.
