WIGAN and Leigh college has announced plans to build a new multi-million pound extension at its Parsons Walk base.
A planning application for the £5.4m Professional Studies Centre project has been submitted to Wigan Council for approval.
The new development will see the construction of a new 1,500m2 three-storey building at the side of the main Parson’s Walk building and will provide high quality teaching accommodation to include conference room facilities, flexible teaching space and will improve accessibility across the site.
The new-build will be joined to the college by a corridor which will also be constructed, with the site planned to be completed by September 2013.
It will be situated across the road from the Wigan Youth Zone, which should have been up and running for several months by the time the extension is opened.
The proposed plans also include the demolition of the existing 1950’s accommodation towards the rear of the site, with extra car parking space being made available.
