A community feeling at cinema

EMPIRE Cinema, Robin Park, is offering top film tickets, a brew and a biccie to senior citizens - and all for less than a fiver.

The popular multiplex on Anjou Boulevard is aiming to create a real community spirit at its senior citizens showings, which take place every Wednesday morning – tickets costing just £3.

Empire General Manager Nicola Wood said: “We think it’s a great opportunity for people to meet others of a similar age group and watch a film and have a chat over a cuppa and a biscuit.

“We are really looking to build on the group of regulars we attract and at £3 - with every fourth film free - believe it offers exceptional value for money.”

On top of the senior citizens mornings, the cinema hosts mother and baby showings where the lights are up and the sound is down, so that young mums who may struggle to get childcare can watch the latest films in a comfortable and safe environment.

Nicola said: “Mums can now watch the latest films in a more suitable setting for them. All the latest blockbusters are shown at off-peak prices, so they needn’t miss out.

“We are making every effort to connect with the local community and want to make it as easy as possible for anyone who wants to see a movie to do just that.

“Our senior citizens club and mother and baby showings, as well as our hugely popular saver-day Tuesday, are just some of the examples of how we are trying to reach out to the people of Wigan.”
