CHEERLEADERS from a Wigan squad came home with a haul of trophies from a prestigious competition.

Allstars Legacy cheerleading squad attended the 12th Northern Classic cheerleading competition at the Blackpool Winter Gardens and won three second places and three third places.

The squad, which trains at Clifton Street community centre in Worsley Mesnes on Wednesdays, gained the trophies for cheerleading, pom dance and stunt group as well as individual placings.

Competing in three different age categories minis, youth and senior, the squad has youngsters from the age of four to members in their 20s.

The competition attracts hundreds of cheerleaders from throughout the country and this year was no exception with teams coming from as far as Somerset.

Coach Janet Wardhaugh said: “I am so proud of the whole squad. It was a last minute decision to enter the competition and our squad which had only danced together for six weeks was placed second, which was a huge achievement.

“We have never competed in the stunt group category before and to come away with a third place was amazing, especially as there had been limited practice time.”

The squad is always looking for new members. Contact Janet 732211/07947 706643 or
