A dad killed in the horrific rally crash on the Isle of Mull hailed from Lancashire and had only moved to the Scottish island weeks before the tragedy, it has been revealed.
Andy Mort, 47, was co-driving rising rally star John MacCrone in the Mull Rally when they crashed into a field on Saturday.
Emergency services rushed to their aid but Mr Mort died at the scene. Mr MacCrone, 26, who won the rally in 2013, was airlifted to hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries but is now believed to be in a stable condition.
Mr Mort, a dad-of-two, was part of the team at Pro-Tech Performance Motorsports at Clifton Business Park, Clifton, Preston, for the last 20 years.
It has emerged that he and partner Sarah Everitt, of Cleveleys, near Blackpool, had only recently moved to the Isle of Mull to start a new life together.
Mr Mort, who was originally from Wigan, leaves behind a son and daughter who live in Wigan.
The rally was abandoned after the tragedy but thousands of fans and competitors gathered to pay tribute to Mr Mort during an emotional walk on Sunday.
The celebration walk traditionally marks the finale of the event but Mr Mort’s family requested it go ahead as planned to honour him.
