PARBOLD Hill is the perfect spot to take in the best of Wigan’s greenery.
James Derbyshire, who owns Sandwich Express in Pemberton, loves taking his bike to the area and looking at the spectacular views.
He said: “As a late-comer to cycling, my favourite spot in Wigan has become the top of Parbold Hill. For a very amateur rider like me without all the gear it is quite a challenge to get to the top, with every man, woman and child breezing past me on their Boardman bikes and my two mates getting ever smaller in the distance above.
“But if you get there and catch it just right on a summer’s evening there is a breathtaking reward waiting. As the sun sets different shades of reds, yellows and oranges light up the pale blue sky. The sinking sun illuminates the rolling green fields below with Dalton church poking through the trees in the background. The views out onto Roby Mill, Berwyn Mountains and Ashurst Beacon are a calming setting for an unfit, slightly overweight man to get some well needed oxygen back into the lungs.”
