WIGAN’S long-held dreams of having a proper concert hall once more were a step closer today.
A year after the Wigan Evening Post first revealed ambitions for a 1,000-seat auditorium at the Pier, an application has been submitted to council planners.
The driving force behind the multi-million-pound project is Today’s Community Church on Pottery Road which wants to construct the performance venue on the site of the former First Buses depot now that the Southgate Saddle Relief Road has been completed.
The church would have first refusal for its use but is also prepared to put the building – which is understood to have an amphitheatre-type design – up for hire by local groups and professional performers.
