A Wigan couple whose dog savaged a four-year-old boy, leaving him with a fractured skull and permanent scars, have avoided jail.

Andrew Young and Jane Anglesea received a 20 week custodial sentence suspended for two years at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

The pair, of Adelphi Street, Standish, were handed a lifetime disqualification from owning a dog.

Anglesea and Young, both 46, had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing and will each pay the court £325 - with £120 in compensation to the victim’s family - and will have to undertake 200 hours of unpaid work.
