Brothers in court accused of causing Wigan disabled man's death

Noormohammed and Hanzah Yusuf appeared at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court in connection with the death of Michael Smith.

The 53-year-old was on his mobility scooter when he was involved in a collision on Poolstock Lane and died later in hospital after suffering serious head injuries.

Both men have been charged with causing Mr Smith’s death by dangerous driving, with 30-year-old Noormohammed Yusuf accused of being at the wheel of a Volvo S40 and Hanzah Yusuf charged with driving a Vauxhall Zafira.

The charges for both allege they were driving dangerously on Poolstock Lane.

In addition Hanzah Yusuf, 20, has been charged with having a blade in his possession while Noormohammed Yusuf faces an accusation he was driving with no insurance.

All the charges relate to February 28, 2019.

Both brothers, who gave the same address on Park Lane in Abram, will now appear at Manchester Crown Court on November 11.

Hanzah Yusuf was released on unconditional bail while Noormohammed Yusuf was ordered to live and sleep at his home address each night until he faces a judge.

A note has also been sent to the coroner regarding the case.
