A CON artist who burgled the home of a 93-year-old woman has been caged.
Dennis O’Brien talked his way into the pensioner’s Wrightington house but was forced to flee empty-handed when disturbed by his victim’s carer.
The 48-year-old from Bibby Street, Liverpool, was arrested by police later the same day - October 10 last year - and later charged with burglary with intent to steal.
O’Brien had previously been found guilty by a jury at Lancaster Crown Court and returned there on Friday to be sentenced to five years behind bars.
After the hearing, DC Steve Wilcox who investigated the crime, said: “O’Brien preyed on a vulnerable lady in a despicable, targeted attack.
“I am pleased with the sentence given to him and I hope it reassures residents that such criminals will be targeted and put behind bars.
“We will continue to work with residents to offer crime prevention advice on beating these kind of criminals but I would always urge people to be cautious of anyone suspicious coming to their door and to report information to the police on 0845 125 3545.”
Kevin Murphy, 42, of Reeds Road, Huyton also appeared at court having been found guilty by a jury of burglary with intent. He will be sentenced in August.
