Car deliberately set on fire in Wigan street

Firefighters were called into action in the early hours of the morning after a car was deliberately set on fire.

A crew from Hindley fire station was called to Windemere Road in Ince just after 1am today, July 2. On arrival, they found a white Ford Fiesta well alight.

They spent just under an hour tackling the flames. The incident is being treated as deliberate.

Police were also called to the scene. A spokesman for the force said enquiries were ongoing.

The vehicle owner revealed that CCTV footage had captured two men approaching the vehicle and setting it on fire, but could not be easily identified because their faces were covered.

A spokesman for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 01.01am on July 2, 2020, one fire engine from Hindley attended a fire involving a car in Windemere Road, Ince.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire using a hose reel.

"The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate and crew were at the scene for around 50 minutes."
