Car involved in Wigan hit-and-run crash after failing to stop for police

Police are hunting a driver after a hit-and-run crash in Wigan.

The smash involved a gold Volvo estate which hit "an innocent motorist" in Kitt Green Road, Marsh Green, at about 3pm on Monday.

The vehicle had failed to stop for police after being seen driving dangerously in the area.

Following the crash, the car sped away before being found abandoned at the end of a public footpath.

Officers said enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver.

In a statement on Facebook, GMP Wigan West, said: "At 3pm on Monday, April 6, a gold coloured Volvo estate car, index: KN04 THU, was driven dangerously around the Marsh Green area after failing to stop for police.

"It hit an innocent motorist on Kitt Green Road before making off. The Volvo was found abandoned a short time later at the end of a public footpath. Enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver.

"If any motorists have any dash cam footage of this incident, or any information about it’s occupants, please contact Wigan Police on 01618567124."
