Cat owner describes the horrific moment she discovered pet's leg had been deliberately severed

The two defenseless animals were deliberately and brutally attacked in Golborne earlier this week, and seemingly placed back outside their owners’ homes.

Today, one of the poor cat’s owners has described the horrific incident as part of an appeal to track down the sick culprits.

Dawn Howard, who lives in May Street, said: “It was Tuesday night and me and my nine-year-old son Liam were about to go to bed.

“I have four cats and we went out to call them in, and my son saw Simba underneath a table and chairs. He picked her up and let out an almighty scream. We saw blood everywhere so we lay her down on the kitchen floor and saw that her back left leg has completely gone.”

Simba was rushed to an emergency veterinary surgeon, who managed to save her life.

“What’s bizarre is that there wasn’t a drop of blood or trails anywhere. It’s like it’s happened and she’s been placed back in our garden,” said Dawn.

“If she’d been hit by a car or a train, she wouldn’t be here. A car couldn’t have the impact to slice her leg clean of, and there’s not one other injury one her. It’s just not plausible.

“Even by the time we got Simba to the vets, the shock hadn’t kicked in. She was still really alert, as if it had only just happened.

“The fact that she’s lost a whole leg and there’s not one drop of blood anywhere else. You would expect to at least see a trail of a smear. It’s very obvious that this is a deliberate, barbaric act.”

Dawn’s house backs onto a large field, known locally as The Bonk. She revealed that her neighbour’s cat was also attacked and placed back outside her home. Sadly, the cat’s injuries were so serious that it had to be put to sleep yesterday.

Police have launched an investigation into the sickening attacks and are appealing for any information from the public.
