They had been looking for the 50-year-old as they claimed he had breached the terms of his licence by failing to reside at an approved address.
Ollerton, who was most recently living in Collyhurst, was jailed in 2000 for the brutal murder of Lynn Dowling in Swinley.
Ollerton and girlfriend Julie Gallagher were convicted of murder after Miss Dowling, 25, was beaten unconscious, dragged into an alleyway on Upper Dicconson Street and kicked and stamped on.
She was left with 57 injuries and was so badly disfigured she could only be identified by a tattoo and fingerprints.
