Driver accused of 120mph dash along M6 with children in back without seatbelts on

A driver has been accused of driving at 120mph along the M6 with three unsecured children in the back of her car during a torrid bank holiday weekend for traffic police in Wigan.

Motorway police have confirmed that the 22-year-old, who had youngsters aged 12, nine and seven as passengers, was first spotted near Warrington on Saturday night.

A patrol driver pulled over the motorist at junction 24 near Ashton and discovered the youngsters in the back of the car.

A North West Motorway Police spokesman said the driver had been summonsed to appear at court.

Motorway police also said that a female motorist was pulled over on the M62, near Warrington, around the same time and gave a roadside breath test of 114mg per 100ml of alcohol. The legal limit is 35mg.

Police took her children to a relative’s home while she was arrested for driving with excess alcohol.

Traffic police in Greater Manchester say this came during a weekend during which a total of 29 suspected drink-drivers and four alleged drug-drivers were pulled over countywide.

A spokesman for the traffic police said the figures made “sad reading” for one 30-hour relief shift.

Three cars suffered collision damage after a fourth car careered into them in Ratcliffe Road, Aspull.

One motorist was detained following a chase after he allegedly gave false details to officers in Warrington Road, Platt Bridge.

Another driver fled after a crash with a taxi in Westleigh Lane and a car was abandoned and seized in Wigan Road, Aspull.
