A drug addict made no fewer than eight shoplifting visits to the same borough store on thieving sprees reminiscent of Christmas shopping - only he wasn’t paying for anything.

Wigan magistrates jailed Dean Clementson for 16 weeks after hearing he stole items from Leigh’s Asda store on trips to the supermarket between late October and early December.

Among the items taken were chocolates, meat, gift sets, deodorants, bottles of prosecco and two stuffed unicorns, together worth hundreds.

The 26-year-old of Samuel Street, Tyldesley, pleaded guilty to nine charges of theft and as well as the prison term he was hit with costs and compensation charges of £183 and he must complete drug dependency programme.
