Anthony McDonagh, from Leigh, was given 21 days in custody when he appeared in the dock at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court.
The 33-year-old, of Organ Street, pleaded guilty to assaulting Simon Reynolds by beating him in an incident in Leigh on August 7 this year.

Hide AdThe bench said that as the violent attack had been committed while McDonagh was under the influence of alcohol it was so serious that the appropriate punishment was to send him straight to jail without the possibility of suspending the term.
He will also have to pay a £128 surcharge to fund victims’ services.
