Five in the dock accused of Wigan churchyard murder

Three men and two teenagers have appeared together before a judge for the first time accused of murdering a Wigan man in the grounds of the town’s parish church.

Lewis Peake, 21, of James Street in Little Lever, Bolton, was the latest to be charged in connection with the violent death of Steven McMyler on August 6. Jordan Short, 20, of Rushkey Hey Road, Kirkby, and a 13-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are accused with the 34-year-old’s murder.

Peake, 20-year-old Michael Wilson of Northfield Close, Kirkby, and a 17-year-old are accused of joint enterprise murder.

Wilson and Peake are further charged with robbing Mr McMyler of an £11,000 Rolex watch.

All five are due to reappear at Manchester Crown Court for another hearing on November 13 with a provisional trial date of February 1 set.
