A man is due to be sentenced for a brutal domestic violence attack.

Mark James Yeates, of Warrington Road, Abram, has already pleaded guilty to the assault by beating of Carol Dolan on June 3 this year.

Wigan and Leigh magistrates remanded the 47-year-old in custody pending sentence because it was argued there was a danger of his re-offending.

A man has appeared in court charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Adetayo Akinola is accused of driving a Vauxhall Vectra which was in collision with pedestrian Michael McGunigle at a bus stop on Ormskirk Road, Newtown, on July 11 last year.

The 40-year-old of Platt Lane, Scholes, denies the charge and will stand trial at Wigan Magistrates’ Court on June 27.

A man has been charged in connection with a firebomb attack on a Wigan home.

Daniel Harter, 37, of no fixed address is accused of arson with intent to endanger life and common assault.

He appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court this week has been remanded into custody pending an appearance at Bolton Crown Court on July 17.

The charge relates to an incident in the early hours of Sunday, June 10, when the emergency services were called to a house ablaze in Manning Avenue, Springfield, from which a 29-year-old woman escaped with minor injuries.
