Police and underwater search and marine units are at the scene of a suspected murder, after the body of a man in his 30s was found in the water at Leeds and Liverpool Canal in Leigh.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday and remains in custody for questioning. Police officers remained at the canal, near Leigh Bridge, on Friday, with a tent erected on the towpath and the area cordoned off. Several bunches of flowers had been left nearby as a tribute to the man, who has not yet been formally named by the police.
