A banned motorist has been jailed for a total of 22 weeks for flouting his road disqualification.

Philip Pope, 36, of Viscount Road, Marsh Green, appeared before Wigan and Leigh magistrates to admit to twice being at the wheel of a Vauxhall Zafira - in both Sherwood Drive, Norley, and Soho Street, Newtown - when he was barred from driving.

He also admitted to having done so when having no insurance.

The court heard that the offences were committed while he already had a suspended sentence hanging over him and the bench told him they were sending him to prison because of his “flagrant disregard for court orders.”

Pope must also pay a victim services surcharge of £128 and he was hit with another three-year driving disqualification.
