Jealous ex gashed man's head open with a paint stripper

A jealous ex has been jailed for gashing open a man’s head with a paint stripper.

Mark Ward is beginning a 25-month prison term after admitting to causing Andrew Thorpe grievous bodily harm.

A Bolton judge heard it was New Year’s Day 2020 when the now 27-year-old, of Church Street, Leigh, went to the home of the woman with whom he had been in a relationship until they separated 15 months earlier.

Looking through the blinds, Ward saw Mr Thorpe – whom the woman had met only the night before – inside.

In a rage he kicked the door open, ran into the house and hit the victim over the head with a paint stripper, causing a 4ins cut.

Police received a report of the disturbance and attended the home to find the defendant, who was arrested.
